CEOE Speech/Drama/Debate Test
The CEOE Speech/Drama/Debate Test addresses the following six categories of knowledge:
- Elements of communication - communication process, interpreting messages, relationship between speech communication and other arts, relationship between verbal and nonverbal communication, ethical communication, vocal production
- Interpersonal and public communications - factors that influence interpersonal communication, interviewing strategies and skills, application of audience analysis to communication, speeches (from planning to delivery and critique)
- Group communication - role of individual, leadership, decision-making process
- Debate - argumentation, policy debate, Lincoln-Douglas debate, legislative debate
- Mass communication - mass media influences and evaluation of messages, broadcasting
- Oral interpretation and drama - competitive oral interpretation, theatre, acting, theatrical production, technical theatre
The CEOE Speech/Drama/Debate Test has a multiple-choice section, worth 85 percent, as well as an essay question that tests knowledge, planning, and implementation of interpersonal and public communications.
