Written expression and oral expression account for 15 percent of the CEOE Spanish Test, apiece. These sections assess validity of the responses given, their clarity, rationale, and general fluency. The rest of the test consists of multiple-choice questions with four possible solutions for each question.
The multiple-choice portion begins with listening comprehension, with oral messages that need to be understood thoroughly to answer appropriately. The test proceeds with reading comprehension, where a number of authentic passages are provided for review.
Grammar is also a component, involving sentence formation, sentence completion, analysis, and editing, as well as some questions prompting for an understanding of the similarities and differences between English and Spanish.
Knowledge in cultural perspectives, comparisons, and connections in Spanish-speaking cultures is required, as well as knowledge of the processes and approaches to language acquisition in the classroom.
