CEOE English Test

The CEOE English Test is structured with 80 multiple-choice questions (85 percent of total score) and one constructed-response section. To prepare for it, review class notes and materials covering the following areas:

Listening, viewing, and speaking - informative purpose, analysis and persuasion, social interaction and personal expression, literary response and entertainment
Writing process and application - elements of composition, conventions of English, writing with purpose (persuasion, instruction, description, explanation, personal expression, social interaction, and critical analysis)
Reading process and comprehension - strategies for developing vocabulary, reading (expository and persuasive pieces, literature)
Language and literature - development of the English language, genres (fiction, nonfiction, poetry), development of culture as reflected in literature

The constructed-response section covers language and literature, asking you to apply relevant information when answering a question. Responses are graded on clarity, grammar, organization, development, and mechanical issues.
