CEOE Deaf/Hard of Hearing Test
The CEOE Deaf/Hard of Hearing Test requires knowledge and skills in each of four major areas:
- Understanding students - how hearing loss effects development; anatomy, types and degrees of hearing loss; language development (oral, written, sign); speech development
- Student assessment and IEPs - interpreting assessment, assessing language, assessing intellectual performance, developing/implementing IEPs
- Supporting student learning - establishing productive, positive learning environment, applying amplification methods, promoting language development, communicating, promoting academic achievement, promoting independent living/self-advocacy
- Professional knowledge - creating/supporting connections between students who are deaf/hard of hearing and school community (to increase opportunities), family, and community agencies/institutions/services; history and philosophy of special education
The written portion (15 percent) of the CEOE Deaf/Hard of Hearing Test covers information and analysis regarding supporting student learning. Multiple-choice questions account for the remaining 85 percent.
