The CEOE Chemistry Test contains 80 multiple-choice questions and a constructed-response question, accounting for 85 percent and 15 percent, respectively, of the total grade.
Test questions cover scientific method, applied knowledge useful in a lab setting, procedures, and tools.
Some questions relate to the concepts of matter and atomic structure, including the periodic table, quantum theory, kinetic molecular theory and gases, and nuclear transformations.
Energy, molecular structure, and bonds are also addressed-particularly thermodynamics, energy relationships, the three types of bonds, types of molecular interaction - substances with a variety of interactive forces, and organic compounds.
Also included are questions regarding chemical reactions, reaction rates and their measurement, chemical equilibrium, acids/bases, redox reactions/electrochemistry, and organic reactions, as well as quantitative relationships, including moles, chemical formulas and equations, and solutions/colloidal suspensions/solubility.
The CEOE Chemistry Test also requires an understanding of chemicals in relation to the environment (nuclear reactions, industrial/household).
